Intellectual Property

A name, design or creative work may be central to a business. KCN advises on intellectual property and the arrangements governing its ownership and use.

Our intellectual property work

Our practice includes trade marks, industrial designs, copyright, licensing and franchising. Kevin Koo Seng Kiat is a registered trade mark and industrial design agent.

An enquiry may concern a new brand, an existing registration, permission to use someone else’s work or a disagreement about ownership. Tell us which assets are involved, who created or registered them and where they are used.

Brands within family businesses

A family name on a shopfront does not tell the whole ownership story. A brand may involve several family members, a trading company and separate agreements about how it is used.

We can examine these arrangements alongside company and shareholder documents. Questions about succession may also need to be considered with the family’s estate planning.

Preparing your enquiry

Make a list of the relevant names, designs or works, any registration details, the countries involved and important dates. Note whether you have received a complaint, demand or official communication.

After a conflict check, we can discuss which documents are needed and the proposed scope of work. Sending an enquiry does not create a solicitor–client relationship; do not send confidential documents until we confirm we can act.

Our IP guides provide general information, not legal advice. Overseas and digital-asset commentary should be read in its stated jurisdictional context.
