Our publishing standards

Editorial policy

Our legal content is intended to explain topics clearly and help readers prepare informed questions. This policy sets the standards for writing, reviewing and maintaining that content.

Who writes and reviews

Content may be written by the firm’s lawyers, pupils in chambers or other identified contributors. Authors must be credited accurately. Pupils are trainees, not lawyers, and their contribution must be described accordingly.

Legal content must be checked by a practising lawyer of the firm before it is published or promoted as a current guide. The reviewing lawyer checks the legal statements, sources, jurisdiction and limitations. Authorship and review are separate credits; neither may be assigned to someone who did not perform that work.

Kevin Koo Seng Kiat leads the firm. His position does not mean that he has personally written or reviewed every article.

Publication and review dates

Each article should show its original publication date. Every article promoted as current guidance must also identify its author, reviewing lawyer and actual legal review date.

A legal review date records a completed review of the substance. Correcting typography, changing a layout or moving an article to a new website does not justify a new legal review date.

Where an older article has not been checked against current law, it must be identified as historical or awaiting review. We do not infer a review from an existing date stamp or invent missing authorship details.

Historical articles and our founder

Articles written by the late Datuk Koo Chin Nam retain their verified original authorship. He founded the firm in 1989 and passed away on 4 April 2025.

His byline identifies a past contribution. It must not suggest that he remains in practice or has reviewed later changes. Any subsequent legal review or substantive update must identify the lawyer responsible and the date.

Sources and jurisdiction labels

Legal explanations should refer to relevant legislation, judgments and official materials where available. Commentary and interpretation should be distinguishable from the underlying legal source.

Pages should identify Malaysia as their jurisdiction where applicable and explain any material limits to their scope. Overseas commentary must name the relevant jurisdiction. Comparative articles must distinguish Malaysian law from foreign law.

Historical and overseas material must not be presented in a current Malaysian reading guide without the necessary review and clear labelling.

Corrections and updates

To report a possible error, email koo.chin.nam@gmail.com with the page link, the passage concerned and any supporting source. Please do not include confidential matter documents.

Reports are assessed and legal questions referred to a practising lawyer. Substantive corrections should carry a dated note explaining what changed. Where content could mislead readers while a correction is considered, it should be flagged or withdrawn from current guidance.

Use of AI tools

AI output is not a legal source or evidence of lawyer review. If AI assists with drafting, translation or editing, the responsible human author and reviewing lawyer remain accountable for the published content.

We do not present AI-generated legal advice as reviewed advice. AI-assisted legal explanations must undergo substantive lawyer review before being labelled as reviewed general information. Neither an automated check nor an AI-generated summary qualifies as that review.

General information and professional standards

Our content is general information, not advice on an individual matter. It must respect confidentiality and avoid outcome promises, client stories, testimonials and misleading claims about the firm.
